I just bought a nicely loaded Toshiba lap top and I let the battery on it charge over night but it still only lasted about 45 minutes. Is this normal or should I take it back?
I was only using it to old fashioned 2d games.

you should do refresh and try it again. If that does not work, take it back.
wow…it should last for hours!!
my new laptop battery lasts for 7 hours!
but its a dell.
i would call the company and ask whats wrong.
if worst comes to worst, send it back.
I had a battery like that on my laptop and it quit within a year and I never took it back. Silly me. But yeah tell them that you need a different battery/exchange.
yes I think so , my battery doesn’t hold a charge at all but it’s an antique, I think it should hold a charge for 4 hours
it should last like 3 hours, with the screen brightness all the way up.
If the brightness of the screen is all the way down, it should last 2 hours longer
My Toshiba is the same, an hour max. Stink eh?
What were you running on it? If you run a 3D game on a powerful laptop 45 minutes is not out of the question. If you were just doing regular stuff though, I would say that battery is junk.
Depends on what size you got, If you upgraded when you got your laptop then it should last longer, if you have the standard battery it will last about 3 hours of straight use.
I have a dell and full charged my battery lasts for about 3 hours so i would say that it isn’t normal or you were doing something that takes up a lot of power like downloading etc.
make sure to totally discharge before recharging. Then let it charge for 12 hours. After doing this 3 or 4 times it should last longer, but the more applications you have running, the faster you use up your battery. So, try to use your AC adapter as much as possible.
45 minutes is not a long time regardless of the beating you lay on its keyboard. I’d be returning it!
Well….
I have a laptop(and I’m using it right now) and I dont really use a battery. I connect it to a link and it works. but, in your story, since you use a battery that only works for 45 minutes, I think you should send it back..
The battery on my HP is supposed to last 4 hours; I think I get away with 3. But 45 minutes? That sounds incredibly short.
Like you, I once believed that when a laptop was advertised as lasting x hours on battery power… it would last x hours on battery power regardless of what I was doing with my laptop. Unfortunately, the advertising is deceiving… I called my laptop’s manufacturerer and discovered that a laptop battery’s usage time is dependent on the number and types of applications I am using while running on battery power..
You mentioned that your laptop is “nicely loaded.” Although you said that your laptop “lasted about 45 minutes,” 45 minutes could be considered “normal” depending on the programs or utilities you were running on you laptop for those 45 minutes.
Some laptops are compatible with different types of batteries. For example, I use a 6 cell battery in my laptop, but I could purchase a 12 cell battery if I wanted to extend the usage time of my laptop on battery power.
My old laptop had the option of inserting 2 rechargable batteries into the unit to extend the usage time of the laptop on battery power.
